In 2012 Poland adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with disabilities. Currently the government is preparing a report on its implementation and NGO’s are preparing their own statements. The project consists of preparing the report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with disabilities in Poland. This will be a report alternative to the one prepared by the government and the Ombudsman and it will beled up by a wide forum of the NGO’s related to the milieu of disabled people and cooperating experts. Contents of the report will be widely consulted and the final version will be sent to the UN.
The Alternative Report is intended to answer the question of how the provisions of the convention are implemented in Poland and in particular to show which parts of it are not being implemented.
According to different sources there are 3 to 6 million people in Poland with different disabilities who are often exposed to discrimination. The convention indicates how the human rights concerning disabled people should be implemented and it is a task for the NGO’s to make sure it works out in Poland.
